Smartphone short films and panel discussion on ecology, tourism and sustainability

In the context of ‘Fridays for Futures’ demonstrations and Greta Thunberg symbolising a generation keen to change the tone and topic of the conversation on sustainability and ecology, we called on filmmakers from Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand to submit their contributions in the form of a smartphone short film.

The winners come from Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam. The Goethe-Institut New Zealand has invited them to Wellington to collectively produce another short film about eco-tourism on smartphones.

On the 4th of November this will be shown as a world premiere at the Embassy Theatre along with the exciting 3-5 minute smartphone films of the winners.

In addition, experts from the fields of climate, tourism, culture and film will discuss challenges and opportunities in times of climate change and the role of culture in it.

Panel discussion with:

Mark Williams (Chair): Director - Circuit NZ
John Barrett: Managing Director, Kapiti Island Nature Tours
Sarah Meade: Founder, Trustee Manager - Track Zero
Ian Yeoman: Professor of Tourism Futures- Victoria University
Max Schleser: Director – MINA
1-2 winning filmmakers: tbc

The German Ambassador Stefan Krawielicki will welcome you to this special event.

As CO2 emissions could not be avoided when bringing artists and climate activists together for exchange and cooperation, we will support a local project to compensate for the emissions caused by the flights.
