Fort Santiago, Intramuros

Violin concerto with Mirijam Contzen

One evening in Manila.
Total darkness.
A theater in centuries-old Intramuros.
The violinist Mirijam Contzen and the sound of her 1733 Carlo Bergonzi violin.
Johann Sebastian Bach’s Partitas and Eugene Ysaye’s Sonata for Violin Solo.
An extraordinary concert experience with a twist:

Concert in the Dark
September 26, 7:30 PM

The Goethe-Institut invites all thrill-seekers and enthusiasts to a treat this September 26. Musician and listeners alike will be plunged in the dark and left with only 4 senses to experience the performance – but with intensified hearing.

Aside from “witnessing” the performance bereft of vision, concert-goers will also experience being led by the blind – literally. Courtesy of the non-government organization Resources for the Blind, a troupe of blind ushers and usherettes will lead audience members inside the dark chamber to their seats.

The multi-awarded German-Japanese violinist, chamber musician and festival director Mirijam Contzen is touring Southeast Asia from September 22 to 27 with stops in Manila, Kuala Lumpur, Hanoi and Yangon for the first of a concert series dubbed "Anders hören" (“Listen differently”) – aptly named, for Contzen is performing live and in complete darkness.

No fees required.

Please be advised that cellphones and other light-producing gadgets have to be turned off during the entire concert.
