The Goethe-Institut Philippinen, the Manila Composers Lab, and the University of the Philippines College of Music will hold this year's Manila Composers Lab from
July 16 to July 20 2018 at the University of the Philippines Diliman. The
Manila Composers Lab 2018 is a workshop gathering six young composers from different ASEAN countries together with six clarinetists from the University of the Philippines Diliman. Young composers will write pieces for solo clarinet and they will collaborate with renowned German clarinetist,
Nina Janßen-Deinzer. They will be guided by Mr. Alexander John Villanueva, composer of the Ripieno Ensemble during the duration of the Lab.
The workshops aim to give intensive training to young contemporary composers of the UP, the German guest workshop facilitators contributing important insights into the bustling music industry in Germany and Europe in general.
The week-long workshop concludes with a concert performance of the workshop pieces by the Ripieno Ensemble and a solo clarinet performance by Nina Janßen-Deinzer on
July 20 at the UP Vargas Museum. Admission is open to everyone.
