The pupils are already attracted by the fascist movement of the 30s in Germany and in Europe, and their teacher is under pressure to keep up his humanistic ideals. When conflicts are getting out of control during a youth camp and a murder occurs, the teacher is again confronted by the blind ideology and the racist and militaristic propaganda of a dictatorial system. Written in 1937 in exile in the Netherlands, the novel (also known as “The Age of the Fish” or “Youth Without God”) became immensely popular and was translated into several language. In Germany the novel was banned immediately by the Nazi regime because of “pacifist tendencies”. It is a haunting crime story and a strong and shattering portray of the time. It shows the frostiness and mendacity of a fascist society in which a lost generation is raised without freedom and ideals. The queries of the teacher on responsibility, morality and necessity of your own actions are nowadays more urgent than ever.

(Due to unforeseen circumstances, the performance on March 25, 2019 is cancelled)
