Goethe-Institut Pakistan in collaboration with National Academy of Performing Arts brings German-Pakistani coproduction with Fawad Khan and Jakob: “The Playlist”

THE PLAYLIST is a reflexion on differences and similarities of Islamic and Christian values and traditions, on capitalism and extremism. An interdisciplinary project in which music and singing, performing and speaking, playing and dancing alternate, mixed with documentary videos of own research in Pakistan.

The US Senate Intelligence Committee's report on the CIA's torture methods in American prison camps (Guantanamo Bay, Abu Ghraib, Bagram etc.), published in the year 2014, shook the world with its horrific and inhumane descriptions of torture at these camps. One of the most bizarre things that the report revealed was that music was used as a means of torture at these camps. Prisoners were made to listen to American pop songs (there was a proper playlist that was used at all prison camps) played on a loop and at extremely high volume. A lot of prisoners said that this was the worst form of torture they went through.
