ARTISTIC ADVISOR/ RADIO EXPERT FOR PALESTINIAN CULTURAL RADIO PROGRAM (M/F/D)

Job description:
The artistic radio advisor will play a leading role in comprehensively overseeing the conception and selection of all Atheer Radio content, and in the process advice on its identity. They will be responsible for selecting program titles for the Online Audio Platform (OAP), selecting artists and artworks, assessing the purchase of production content and planning radio programs.

The project in a nutshell:
The Palestinian Cultural Radio Program “Atheer” aims at empowering radio- and sound-practitioners in Palestine and at building up an accessible audio online platform for broadcasting, dissemination and archiving purposes of audio content and to oversee, co-curate and co-conceptualize production of cultural audio content at the newly built and fully equipped sound studio at the French-German Cultural Center.
It also intends to launch sustainable cultural audio initiatives, including the use of a community audio/sound studio, an online audio platform and a mobile radio/audio studio (‘radiobus‛) to produce, edit, and disseminate critical cultural content. In addition, this project is promoted and accompanied by the implementation of "radio residencies" for cultural audio practitioners in cooperation with local civil society organizations and universities, the establishment of radio summer trainings and the implementation of an intensive two-week skills development program in Europe (Germany) for young Palestinian audio practitioners (“radio bridges”). Sub-grants will be awarded to independent artists, cultural practitioners, and cultural grassroots, amongst others to produce cultural audio content for the online audio platform. The project is to be realized within 3 years, and seeks for broad collaborations within Palestine, the Arab world and Europe.


The main tasks of the artistic advisor/ radio expert include:

  • Working closely with the program’s manager on selecting appropriate content for Radio Atheer productions and curating the program’s milestones
  • Evaluating new and existing programming for suitability in order to assess the need for change
  • Advising team on cultural content productions, new radio themes and approaches
  • Overseeing all aspects of the artistic direction of Atheer Cultural Radio, such as assessing and selecting the content that will be broadcasted and/or archived, critiquing content, and advising on the overall radio programming schedule, direction and recommending new artists and audio practitioners to work closely with the program management team
  • Setting the program themes and develop radio plans
  • Contributing to the visual identity of production themes in cooperation with the program team
  • Determining which photographs, art, or other design elements to use with the OAP published content
  • Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
  • Other tasks in agreement with the Program Manager
Requirement profile:
  • Sense of cultural critical content, and the ability to conceptualize, curate and co-curate the production of different formats of audio and radio content
  • Understanding of the artistic and cultural dimension of in-depth cultural critique and has the skill to develop innovative and unique content for a variety of audiences
  • Proven experience as radio expert/artistic advisor
  • Experience with sound quality and radio productions
  • A team player with excellent communication skills
  • Creativity and attention to detail
  • Problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to effectively manage time and schedules
  • Knowledge of post-production procedures, techniques, and standards
  • Organizational skills
  • Previous experience working in donor-funded cultural projects is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and writing communication skills in English and Arabic
  • 7 years of relevant experience in the cultural field
  • University degree in art management, communication, journalism or related fields
  • Intercultural communication skills
  • Self-motivation and ability to work under pressure
  • Critical Thinking
  • Knowledge of the Palestinian culture sector
Remarks:
  • If not the full range of expected requirements are met the compensation can vary from the allocated compensation
  • Visa and working permit issue should be directly discussed with the Goethe-Institut in Ramallah
  • The artistic radio advisor will work as a part-time consultant
  • Monthly compensation according to project budget in line with local standards
