The Backpack Library is a mobile library with books for children and young adults, which are used in German lessons in a variety of ways. The Goethe-Institut Bucharest has one backpack for the primary level and two backpacks for the secondary level. There are about 25 books in each backpack. Aesthetic quality, thematic relevance to the country and linguistic accessibility characterize the selected books, many of which have been awarded or nominated for the German Youth Literature Prize.
The aim of this campaign is to bring literature closer to children and young people, to offer them exciting access to the German language, and thus, to ensure that German lessons are full of variety.
For the youngest readers, there are picture books whose central characters - animals or children - experience wonderful adventures.
Youngsters can read exciting stories about friendship, love and family, and even detective stories whose protagonists are teenagers or young adults. By using the books in the classroom, students can flip through the books, look at the pictures and illustrations, skim through headings, then read a book/selected sections of text and complete various assignments.
Teachers' notes or links for additional materials, synopses, and film adaptations are provided for many books.
