Root Foundation hosts a row of discussions on vulnerable/underprivileged groups of people in our society. For the series „Listen To: …“ we are going to invite representatives of the target group who share their experience and are open to answer our questions and contribute to our discussions. We are addressing a very sensible topic each time to create awareness, understanding and support for affected people.The number of women raising their children alone was enorumesly high after the genocide in 1994. Since then, the number of war-affected women has decreased, yet we cannot measure how many single mothers live in Kigali today. Whether separated, a widow or simply left alone, all women face the same challanges, especially without the support of their family and community. What does it mean for children to be raised by a mother only and most commonly under poor conditions? What can communities do to support the lives of these women and children? There are positive examples making it seem effortless to cope with life as a single mother. Let us share stories with single mothers from different backgrounds and analyze our ability to influence their lives.
