PRESENTATION Poetry Slam/Open Mic

One of the most vital and energetic movements in poetry during the 1990s, slam has revitalized interest in poetry in performance. After the successful session of 16th of February, this is the follow-up of the Poetry Slam. Poetry is a way of expressing feelings, writing about current issues and anything that keep one’s mind busy. Poetry Slam and Spoken Lyrics in general, are special forms of poetry that give the author an opportunity to engage with their audience directly. Words in slam poems are chosen for their meaning but also for the way they sound when read aloud. Bodily movements and facial expressions are fair game and can add depth and meaning to a performance. There is no formal structure and there are no rules — any style is welcome and that freedom is what many slam poets find inspiring.

The Poetry Slam/Open Mic night is open to everyone. Pieces you would like to present should be in English, French or German, but you are free in the style you present. There is no competition, we will merely enjoy poetic words of different people.

If you would like to present a piece during the Poetry Slam, please register via e-mail: assistenz@kigali.goethe.org
Please state your names, the name of your work and the language in which you would like to present.
