The Federal Republic of Germany in 1977: RAF, Mogadishu, Stammheim, the assassination of Hanns-Martin Schleyer – words that have been burning into the collective memory of a young republic. These events that were taking place in October 1977 have been coined with the term “German Autumn”. Looking back for this year’s 40th commemoration of the terrorist attacks, we show a filmic collaboration by a range of well-known German directors of this time period who captured only one year after the events the dynamics and emotions of a country that was still finding itself in deep reeling of the occurred events.

After the film political scientist Rainer Schmidt will give a talk about the RAF-terrorism that shook Germany in the 1970s to provide the audience with a historical contextualization.
