The new film by Clementine Dusabejambo

ICYASHA follows a twelve years old boy and football lover tries desperately to join a neighborhood boys ‘team. His effeminate character disqualifies him. He gets denigrated and bullied several times. He finds himself confronted to a world where he has to prove and claim his masculinity. It is a story that simultaneously discusses the pain and beauty of childhood.
 
Based in Kigali/Rwanda Marie-Clementine DUSABEJAMBO, is a self-taught filmmaker and engineer in electronics and telecommunication by training. Her films, have played in many film festivals and Televisions around the world and won national and international recognitions. In 2012, her short film ‘LYIZA’ was awarded the Cinit award in Milano Festival 2012 and Bronze Tanit in JCC2012 in Tunisia. ‘BEHIND THE WORD’ worn the Jury prize at CineSud Festival 2014. ‘A PLACE FOR MYSELF’ won eighteen awards including the prestigious THOMA SANKA prizes in FESPACO 2017 the Ousmane Sembene award and Golden Dhow in ZIFF 2016, Bronze Tanit in JCC2016 ( Tunis) and the EFERE OZAKO Award during AMAA awards 2017. ICYASHA is her fourth short film.
 
IYUGI a production company based in Kigali in partnership with Goethe Institute Kigali is organizing a Pre-premiere screening of Clementine Dusabejambo’s upcoming new short film ‘ICYASHA’. The Screening will be followed by a Q&A about the film and opens a discussion about the general image of Rwandan Film Industry.
