Film production Workshop
Call For Application:If you are an aspiring filmmaker based in Kigali, don’t miss this call to apply for the film production workshop, that will go deep on new ways of reinventing how cinema is made, by blurring the line between documentary and fiction, at the same time using limited means. In this workshop, the selected 8 participants will go through a week of mentorship on their project after which one or two of the project will be selected to be produced and the rest of the participants will team up on the selected project(s) to go into production in the second week of the workshop.
The workshop will be conducted by Mbabazi Philbert Aimé and Ishimwe Samuel, directors of acclaimed short films “I Got My Things And Left” and “Imfura” respectively. The workshop will be built on the specific idea of using an “Experimenting ground”, a practice that invites the fiction into reality and vice-versa. The filmmakers/mentors have been experimenting this notion they got from their time at the film school “HEAD-Geneva”, and have adapted it to the Rwandese filmmaking realities.
The workshop is practical and intensive, covering the writing, preproduction, production and post productions phases. The aim of the workshop is to launch careers. The final selected projects will be produced as part of the workshop and receive guidance and follow up to navigate the film festivals circuit, through the wide reaching network at the disposal of the mentors.
The workshop will be closed in an evening of the screening of the produced short film(s).

An “Experimenting ground”
What we call an “Experimenting ground” is the reality from which you are going from to build your story. It can be a real person, a location, a group of people or other, that is real and serves as an inspiration from which you can build a fictional story.
An “experimenting ground” can be:
A place: “a Barber shop, a Market place, a home, a bar, a street, etc…”
A person: “A real person you know that you could build a story around to make your film”
A group of people “a choir, a class of students, a group of friends, workers, etc”
Write a short description of your “Experimenting ground” and what inspires you to make a film about it.
2. A one page treatment of the story you wish to build around the “Experimenting ground”
3. Motivation letter: Tell us about yourself and your relationship with Cinema
4. A written Script or visual approach would be welcomed but are not mandatory.
Eligibility
No Experience required
The workshop is intensive and all participants should be able to commit to the full length of the workshop in Kigali: 13th to 30th of January, 2020
The project you submit has to be set in Kigali or shootable in Kigali
Participation is free of charge
The selected participants will be announced on the 8th of January 2020.
Notes:
-The most prepared participants will enhance their chances of getting their project produced
-A small daily transport fee will be provided to all participants
-A lunch meal will be provided during the full period of the workshop
