Hotel Lux

Director: Leander Haußmann, Farbe, 110 min., 2011

Satire can do anything! That's how the cabaret artist Hans Zeisig thought when in 1938 in Berlin he took Adolf Hitler as the target of his Stalin show. Shortly thereafter he sits in Moscow with false papers, and instead of a comedian career in Berlin or Hollywood, he is stuck in the Hotel Lux, which has become a notorious meeting place for exiled communists. There he also meets his old Jewish buddy Siggi Meyer, whose Hitler impersonations had met with little approval in Berlin. Unfortunately, there is no question of relaxing in a hotel, because the false papers identify Hans Zeisig as Hitler's renegade body astronomer, in whom the Stalinist regime is keenly interested.
