Born in Tokyo in 1960, Yoko Tawada moved to Hamburg when she was 22, and then to Berlin in 2006.

She writes in Japanese and German, and has published stories, novels, poems, plays and essays – in both languages. She has received numerous awards for her writing, including the Akutagawa Prize and the Kleist Prize.
