The Goethe-Institut is the Republic of Germany’s official cultural institute. With around 270,000 course participants annually, it is the largest provider of German courses worldwide.

Our learning concept

  • reflects the most recent knowledge in teaching and learning research.
  • is varied, interactive and communicative. Speaking, listening, reading and writing are practised in situations based on real-life, using authentic texts.
  • is oriented to topical and inter-cultural subject matter.

The teaching language is German right from the first lesson.

Our teaching staff

  • are methodically and didactically trained and have at least 300 hours of teaching experience in German as a foreign language
  • receive regular further training to ensure that their methods are always up to date
  • have experience in working with people from different countries and cultures
  • are certified examiners for the Goethe certificates
  • are certified online tutors

German is their mother tongue or they have comparable German language skills.

    Aarti Chauhan Girdhar

    Hi, I'm Aarti! Originally from India, I discovered my passion for German while learning it, which drove me to pursue a Master's in German Studies. Since 2013, I've taught at various Goethe-Institutes in Asia before coming to Singapore. I enjoy travelling, meeting people, dancing, drawing, and creating Mandala Art. My German learning tip: Embrace mistakes, engage with German speakers!

    Jiwei Han

    Hi, I’m Jiwei. I was born in Shanghai and studied in Germany. Before I came to Singapore in 2020, I taught German at Goethe Language Centre in Shanghai. You know who is my first student? My son! We do lots of things together, badminton, fitness, travelling and of course reading German books. My German learning tip: think in German.

    Luna Grimm

    Hi, I'm Luna, born and raised in Germany. After learning eight languages and having lived in five different countries, I found my home in country six: Singapore. Now, at Goethe-Institut, I want to pass on my passion for learning foreign languages and inspire others to start a life on the other side of the planet. My German learning tip: consume media in German! (I have some book recommendations)

    Hi, I’m Nico and I’m from Germany. I studied both German and English in Aachen and I have been working as a German teacher since 2022.     Charlotte Kautt

    Hallo! My name is Charlotte. I come from the small and picturesque town of Biberach in Southern Germany. I have been teaching German, English and Chinese before moving to Singapore where I have settled with my family in 2010. Apart from teaching German, I enjoy going for nature walks and trying out new recipes. My German learning tip: Enjoy the conversations as you discover the language.

    Simone Opper

    Hi, I was born and grew up in the “Westerwald” in Rhineland-Palatinate. A coincidence brought me to the Goethe-Institut Beijing. Since then, teaching German has been my passion. I have been working at the Goethe-Institut Singapore since 2003. The exchange with German learners is one of the most beautiful experiences in my life. German is fun and brings joy!

    Susanne Flemming

    Hi there, I’m Susanne and I‘m born and raised in Germany where I also studied. I'm living and working in Asia already half of my life. After adventures in Hong Kong and Tokyo I arrived in Singapore in 2013. I love all kind of sports particulary weight lifting, yoga and pole dance. My German learning tip: Watch your favorite TV show or movie in German! There are plenty of free resources online.

    Ulf Mielke

    Hello, my name is Ulf Mielke. I grew up in Schleswig-Holstein but have lived in Hamburg for ten years as well – until I moved to South East Asia. I have lived in Singapore since 2003. What I like the most here are the nature and the weather. My hobbies are exercise and music (listening and playing).
