A photography exhibition on the topic of youth and future.
Arising from The Southeast Asian Photography Masterclass Scholarship launched in 2016, the exhibition “we will have been young” showcases 12 young Southeast Asian photographers who developed new works under the mentorship of two German photographers Jörg Brüggemann and Tobias Kruse from the Ostkreuz agency of photographers in Berlin.
“we will have been young” at Objectifs: Centre for Photography and Film will tell stories from the region on the topic of youth and future, through the works of the 12 photographers. Mentors Jörg Brüggemann and Tobias Kruse will be in Singapore to conduct masterclasses and to take part in public events to share their experiences on 12 and 13 January 2018.
The Southeast Asian Photography Masterclass programme was a joint effort of the various Goethe-Instituts in the Asia-Pacific region. It was a project that was proposed as a means of cultural exchange between the people of Germany and Southeast Asia through a collaborative photographic investigation between 12 Southeast Asian photographers, 2 German photographer-mentors and a German book designer. Through this programme, the participants deepened their understanding of the respective structure of their work. This approach helped them to expand their theories and approaches to their photographic work over the next 10 months.
The exhibition was first launched at the Obscura Festival of Photography 2017 in Malaysia. Objectifs is the presenting partner of the show in Singapore as the beginning of the regional tour before travelling to the other countries in Southeast Asia and onwards to the Asia-Pacific and Germany.
