Fourth edition of SAMA Music Festival

SAMA International Music Festival returns for the fourth year in a new format and theme. The festival chose for this year a theme about String Instruments “ Wateryat “. It deals with different string instruments, local and international, through different workshops and encounters between Sudanese musicians and international guests. Goethe Institut Sudan have invited “ Jin Jim “ band from Germany , a band with four members (Daniel Manrique-Smith – Johann May – Nico Stallmann – Ben Tai Trawinski ) and will present us with stunning  contemporary jazz music . British Council will invite the talented artist Masafiri Zawose from Tanzania through British Council’s project East Africa Arts.  He will introduce us with his two traditional instrument  (Zeze & Malimba ) .
 
Two workshops will be organised, one for contemporary jazz and another one for Wateryat . Number of talented Sudanese musicians applied for these two workshops to join our guests in exchanging music and learning from each other .
 
The festival will organise number of outstanding musical events :
For the opening on 14th October  , we will start with be with the Sudanese international musician “Asim Altayeb” in a music forum called “ Sounds of Sudan “ . The second night 15th October, Sudanese traditional singer Omer Ehsas & Masafiri Zawose from Tanzania will surprise us with “Improvisation “ concert . The third night , 16th October , we will present Jin Jim for the first time to Sudanese audience , with special appearance for this night and “Andriya road show” band  .
The fourth night, 17th October ,  will be dedicated to the Sudanese participants from the workshop,  well as Zolo an outstanding  Sudanese artists, theme of this night is  “Taal shoof” “ Arabic Come and See “ .
*All these concerts will take place at Goethe Institut new event place in Albaladiya street.
 
For the fifth night on 18th October, Institut Francais opens its doors to music and music lovers we will screen a French film “ Brooklyn” with English subtitle , a story of a girl making her way  to be a hip hop singer.
The final event will take place on 19th October at Sudan National Theatre in Omdurman, where all the guest artists and workshop participants will perform in one amazing event, presenting Sudanese, African and international music.
 
The festival is organised by Goethe-Institut Sudan in cooperation for the second year with The Institut Francais and British council. Our thanks goes to the continuous support by Al Faisal Cultural Center, and The European Union which celebrates this year the The European Year of Cultural Heritage.
