The coming year brings a new season of open-air-screenings to the Goethe-Institut Thailand. The 2018 programme guarantees compelling viewing and includes a thriller of nail-biting suspense, an extraordinary father-daughter relationship and even a comedy based on the very serious current topic of the refugee crisis. Join us in January and enjoy these German film highlights amidst the greenery of our premises at the Goethe-Institut Thailand!

With the open-air film series, the Goethe-Institut offers its viewers a deeper insight into the German-speaking film culture and shows the most interesting works of important film directors. The films chosen are both contemporary and topical, most of them are award-winners and premiered as recently as 2017. They can be seen exclusively at the Goethe-Institut Open-Air Cinema

And the good news is that all films will have English and Thai subtitles! This guarantees everyone a relaxing viewing experience regardless of their German proficiency. The new film series kicks off at 18.30h on January 9th with a small opening ceremony. The opening film “Welcome to Germany” starts at 19.30h. It tells the story of the chaos which breaks out in the family when mother Hartmann decides to take in a refugee.

On Tuesday, February 27th 2018 the series ends on a high note with the screening of “Toni Erdmann”. This tragicomedy was nominated for an Oscar and tells the story of a father who tries to re-establish a loving relationship to his estranged, hard-working daughter.

Once again, we are especially happy to enjoy the cooperation of the Austrian and Swiss embassies who have contributed to the film series with production from their countries.
