The Goethe-Institut is no longer receiving applications for the Game Jam. At the moment a jury is choosing the participants and the Goethe-Institut will inform all candidates latest by 1st March, if their application was successful.
The next top computer game might well be a Thai production! This is your chance! The Goethe-Institut Thailand and Chulalongkorn University‘s Commde are inviting game developers, programmers, artists, musicians and other creative minds to get together at the ART GAMES to develop new computer games in a 48-hour Game Jam. The Jam will take place in Bangkok from March 16th -18th and a trip to Germany is to be won!
Join fellow enthusiasts for a Jam in which games, art and politics converge. Win a trip to Germany and get connected to both the German and the international game scene!
The Game Jam will be hosted by the Goethe-Institut Thailand and Chulalongkorn University in cooperation with Maschinen-Mensch, an award-winning game-developing studio based in Berlin. All games created during the Jam will be presented on the ART-GAMES website of the Goethe-Institut.
Participation in the Game Jam is free and application is open to anyone interested in game development. Applications must be submitted by February 15th 2018. You will receive notification of whether or not your application was successful by
March 1st, at the latest.

What is it exactly?
It’s a 48-hour Game Jam in which the participants design a digital game in the field of art and/or politics. The common theme of the Jam will be announced at the start. Please bring all necessary equipment, such as laptop, charger cables, etc. with you. Participants should also bring a sleeping bag and mat.
Where is it?
At CommDe, Chulalongkorn University.
When is it?
It’s a 48-hour Jam starting Friday, March 16th at 4pm and ending Sunday, March 18th at 4pm.
Who is the target group?
Programmers, game designers, artists, musicians, film makers and others in creative or game development related fields. Experience is helpful but not essential. The project team will select the participants.
What does it cost?
Participation is free and all meals are complimentary. There will be space to relax and sleep.
Prize
From all the participating teams, three possible winners will be pre-selected by a Bangkok jury. An international Art Games jury will then make the final selection and the winning team will be invited to work with a German mentor (Linda Rendel, Bernd Diemer, the collective FUR or Maschinen-Mensch) to further develop their game. Two representatives of the winning team will be invited to present their game at the legendary A Maze. Festival in Berlin, Germany which takes place from April 23rd - 29th, 2018. They will do so along with the seven winning teams from the other international Game Jams.
Background Information
ART GAMES is part of the interactive exhibition Games and Politics, initiated in the autumn of 2016 by the Goethe-Institut and brought to fruition in cooperation with the ZKM Karlsruhe. The world-touring exhibition,Games and Politics, features computer games that critically examine the consequences of globalization.
The exhibition marks the start of a project funded by the German Federal Foreign Office - the ART GAMES. At eight of the different exhibition stations across the globe, games will be created within 48 hours that go beyond the demands of the mainstream.
The Game Jams will take place in Mexico City, Seoul, Jakarta, Boston, Novosibirsk, São Paulo, Athens and Bangkok.
The Games & Politics exhibition will be opened on March 16th, 6:30pm at CommDe, Chulalongkorn University.
