Happy Hunting Ground is a transnational project, under the direction of choreographer Thanapol Virulhakul, and Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe. Since August 2015, four female veteran Thai performers and two German actors from the ensemble of the State Theatre have engaged in a workshop and two rehearsal phases in Karlsruhe and Bangkok: the performance will debut in Thailand (Bangkok, then Chonburi) and continue to Germany (Karlsruhe), and Switzerland (Bern).

Jürgen Berger, author and initiator of the project, researched on the topic of Thai women’s relationship with foreign men and undertook interviews with women working in Pattaya as well as with visiting foreigners. This documentary material was edified during the working process in the interest of opening up perspectives going beyond the concrete couples and their relationships. It reveals an unequal system that is deeply rooted in daily life, not only in an apparent aspect of sexual relationship. Happy Hunting Ground invites a reflection on the politics of relationship and the limits of human capacities when dreams and desires take a deep influence on human behaviour and judgment.
