In alignment with this year's theme of the Frankfurt Book Fair, "The Fragility of Existence," the Ukrainian pavilion's program places a central focus on the vulnerability and potential destruction of nature and the environment during times of war. The pavilion boasts its own stage, where daily events in English and German will take place, commencing with the discussion "Images of Devastation: Capturing the Fragility of Nature in Times of War" on October 18th at 12 o'clock. Moderator Kyrylo Beskaravajnyi will guide the proceedings, joined by the director of the Ukrainian NGO Truth Hounds, Roman Avramenko, as well as the scientists Kateryna Shavanova and Pavlo Goldin.
In addition to discussions regarding the current situation in Ukraine, the organizers will acquaint visitors with Ukrainian culture, book design, and book art. Among the authors and guests representing the national stand are Irina Tsilyk, Maxym Yakovlyev, Kateryna Mykhailitsyna, Anna Novosad, Yulia Kozlovetz, Alona Karavai, Vakhtang Kebuladze, Svitlana Oslavska, and many others.
Program “Fragility of freedom”
Together with the Mystetskyi Arsenal National Cultural, Art and Museum Complex, the Goethe-Institut and other Ukrainian partners are offering an international discussion programme “Fragility of freedom”, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office. The programme aims to strengthen the resilience of Ukrainian cultural and educational partners.
Program “Fragility of creators”
The Ukrainian stand is located in Hall 4.1/ Stand: B 82 and takes place within the framework of the project “Exchange of the German and Ukrainian Book and Literature Industries”, sponsored by the State Minister for Culture and Media. The project is being led by the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels (German Publishers & Booksellers Association), in close cooperation with the Goethe-Institut, the Frankfurt Book Fair and the Ukrainian Book Institute as well as the Ukrainian cultural institution Mystetskyi Arsenal, the online trade magazine for books and culture Chytomo.
In this context, the specialist programme entitled “Fragility of the Creators” is offered, curated by the Goethe-Institut and the Ukrainian Book Institute.
