ECO Solidarity is an initiative and movement developed with the Polish Cultural Institute New York and Tomek Rygalik of Studio Rygalik in partnership with WantedDesign and presented with eight European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) organizations that address the urgency for more human-centered design in response to humanitarian and public health crises by focusing on ecology, the climate emergency, public health, wellbeing in public spaces, and how shifts in the economy affect people’s lives.

ECO Solidarity 2021 will launch at the CLOSEUP event from May 17–18 and be featured in an expanded online exhibition from June 15 – August 15, 2021.

ECO Solidarity addresses urgency for:

  • Human-centered, Green New Deal-aligned product design, architecture, and public space.
  • Sustainable design solutions focused on climate change ecology, public wellbeing, public health.
  • Real-life applicable solutions addressing Covid-19 public health crisis.
  • Inclusivity and diversity: providing equal opportunity to designers from all genders and races
  • Prioritizing European emerging designers interested in developing collaborations in the US
Eight visionary designers and studios were selected to share products and projects that thoughtfully consider the positive social impact, design empathy, and sustainable materials. Our participating designer is Renana Krebs with Algaeing, a textile innovation company that harnesses the power of renewable algae to create a real impact against climate change. They formulate planet-positive, scalable solutions for manufacturing fibers and dyeing fabrics all in a 100% closed system that can be used with existing production machinery.

Register to attend the live ECO Solidarity sessions on Day 2 of CLOSEUP, Tuesday, May 18, to learn more about Algaeing.

Additionally, Anastasiya Koshcheeva with MOYA Birch Bark will be featured in the expanded online exhibition from June 15–August 15, 2021.

Your free ticket to CLOSEUP gives you access to two full days of live programming, inspired by a TV show format and featuring trend forecasts, virtual studio visits, and product launches by North American and international design brands.
