The New School

A Night of Philosophy gathers academic philosophers, artists and the general public for 12 hours of happenings, including philosophy lectures,artistic performances, theatre, art videos, dance, songs, DJ sets and reading performances. The span of the event over an entire night stretches time and suggests a brilliant future where nightlife, philosophy, everyday life, and art, merge together.

Roam free throughout the remarkable settings of the historic New School and Eugene Lang buildings. The café and open-air courtyard filled with trees and art will be open all night. Between the spaces, 63 works of art will be on display from the exceptional Art Collection of The New School. 

50 philosophers from The New School, “friends of The New School” or from Columbia University (which was the “old school” a 100 years ago) will be taking part, together with 50 artists. Attend talks by philosophers including Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, Jay Bernstein, Christia Mercer, McKenzie Wark, Charles Mills, Drucilla Cornell, Markus Gabriel, Lewis R. Gordon, Nickolas Pappas, Alice Crary, Francey Russell, Otto von Busch, Ann Stoller. Witness philosophers engage in artistic performances, and enjoy unexpected site-specific artistic performances and the visual art.
