We invite you to come and go freely, to listen to music in a different dimension, with Formenti playing the piano daily, from morning to night. With round-the-clock
live streaming, you can also experience and share his days at a distance.
NOWHERE is a non-place in the middle of the city. Marino Formenti performs, eats, sleeps, and lives all in the same space — a metaphorical, silent, musical ‘glass house’ that is also surrounded and on view by the daily life of the city. In a performance about music, time, and togetherness, Formenti questions any and all divisions between performance and life. Days become music. We invite you to come and stay, leave and come back, listen or ignore the pianist, sleep, read, write, draw, lie down — to experience music, time, and togetherness in another way.
Marino Formenti is a pianist, conductor, teacher and artist whose performances include interpretations of recent works, improvisations and individual reflections on classical masterpieces; his most recent projects include often non-western and popular forms of music. He frequently employs experimental forms, for example, his piano recitals (“Kurtag’s Ghosts,” “Liszt Inspections,” “Torso”) create an intense dialogue between the works and the repertoires in a sort of continuous flow. “Nowhere” has been performed at Berlin Festival, BoCa Lisboa, Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, Steirischer Herbst Graz, Performatik Bruxelles, Triennale Milano. Formenti is a teacher-conductor of the ENM Ensemble of the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. In 2020 he will be Artist in Residence at BeethovenFest in Bonn as part of the Beethoven’s 250th Birth-Year Celebrations.
TIME:SPANS is a festival dedicated to the presentation of twenty-first century music. The festival is produced and presented by the Earle Brown Music Foundation Charitable Trust. The name TIME:SPANS is taken from the title of an orchestra piece by the American composer Earle Brown. Thomas Fichter is the Artistic Director for the festival. Works by J.S. Bach, J. Cage, L. Couperin, M. Formenti, G. Frescobaldi, F. El Atrache, B. Eno, J. Froberger, M. Feldman, and Nirvana, among others.
