Shaping the Past Exhibition – Untold RVA & Untold Tours: Transnational

Free Bangura is an independent historical strategist and cultural entrepreneur. In 2013, she founded Untold RVA and Untold Tours: Transnational to inspire nontraditional audiences with bold typography, audio-enhanced street art, and urban exploration. Bangura founded the transnational Commemorative Justice movement, through which she advocates for Black and Brown cultural entrepreneurs; aims to uphold economic value for their unique contributions; and addresseses the exclusion of descendant communities in the mainstream historical preservation sector.

Free Bangura's current interactive street art project is Black Monument Avenue, a three-block urban exploration experience in Richmond's majority-Black Highland Park neighborhood. Visitors can safely explore this walkable streetscape via their phones to hear original songs, poems, and messages about each installation.
