Ingrid Crepeau is a successful American puppeteer, performer and puppet-designer based in the Washington, DC area. She is known for her work on the Racing Presidents mascots of the Washington Nationals baseball team. Her time in Darmstadt, Germany in the late 1950s kindled her interest in puppeteering. For the series finale of The Big Pond, our own Technical Director Flawn Williams reports on her transatlantic career.

When Ingrid Crepeau was a preteen in the 1950s, she lived in Darmstadt, a city in the West of Germany, with her American military family. For The Big Pond, she speaks fondly of the puppet shows she attended in Darmstadt and she recalls the time a German puppet master invited her to join his performance. Sixty years later, she is still applying his lessons to her puppet shows to delight American audiences.

Among other pursuits, Ingrid builds and maintains the giant mascots known as The Racing Presidents for DC’s Washington Nationals baseball team as well as mascots for other teams in the area. She and her partner Michele Valeri have also entertained and taught decades’ worth of children’s audiences about dinosaurs and other topics as Dinorock, an interactive musical puppet show using hand and body puppets designed and operated by Ingrid.
