Renovation and Closing

Goethe-Institut Temporary Closing and Locations

We are delighted that the historical home of the Goethe-Institut Boston in the Back Bay will be undergoing renovations starting this fall. Just in time for its 50th anniversary, the Goethe-Institut Boston will be getting a complete makeover! Not to worry, coursework and language exams will carry on as usual…
With a little help from our friends...

Just a few steps away from the home of the Goethe-Institut Boston, First Church Boston provides us with several classrooms in a historically and architecturally sophisticated environment. First Church in Boston was established on July 30, 1630. When John Winthrop and his party stepped off the Arbella, their first official act, even before drawing up a charter for the city, was to create and sign a Covenant for the First Church in Boston. In this document we find the following words: "[Wee] solemnly, and religiously...Promise, and bind ourselves, to walke in all our mutuall love, and respect each to other..." — a promising motto for language learning!
The building is fully wheelchair accessible with ramps, an elevator, handicap bathrooms and designated parking spots.

The German International School Boston in Allston is what you might call a natural partner of the Goethe-Institut. Both institutions share the objective of professional commitment to German language and culture.
The “GISB” was founded by a dedicated group of parents and leaders within the German cultural community, who were initially told that their vision was “völlig unmöglich” (totally impossible). Former German President Johannes Rau inaugurated GISB in the fall of 2001. 16 years later the school is continuously growing and enjoys a great reputation….
GISB is easily accessible by public transit. The closest bus lines are the 86, 66, 70, and 70A. The school provides a large parking area making it very convenient for drivers.
