Holocaust scholar Toto (Lars Eidinger) is, famously, also the grandson of a Nazi war criminal. In organizing a conference, he takes on an intern from France named Zazie (Adèle Haenel) whose grandmother was killed by the Nazis. After a rocky meet-cute, the kookily mismatched pair bond, speak candidly about their familial legacies, and stumble toward romance.
Winner, Grand Prize, Tokyo Int’l Film Festival.
Eight nominations for the German Film Award, including Best Feature.
Audacious… offbeat romantic comedy that explores the legacy of the Holocaust two generations removed. An entertainingly skewed, iconoclastic dramedy.—Variety
