Best of the German Film Series

Online

Before we restart the German Film Series at the Coolidge with in-person screenings in September, we are bringing back some of the most successful recent German films to enjoy free of charge on our new Goethe on Demand streaming platform. During the month of August, each of the five films will be available for streaming for a whole week. All films come with English subtitles.

Adam & Evelyn
GDR, summer 1989: Dressmaker Adam and waitress Evelyn are a couple and plan to spend their holidays at Lake Balaton in Hungary. But when Evelyn catches Adam cheating on her, she quickly decides to instead travel to Hungary with her best friend Simone and her cousin from West-Germany. Adam follows her, meets Katja on the way and smuggles her across the border. After their arrival at the lake, they learn that Hungary has opened the border to Austria – while Evelyn sees this as a chance for a new life, Adam finds it hard to adjust to the idea of a sudden change.
