Pieces for Here, Now & Later
1000 Scores - Pieces for Here, Now and Later is an online project with weekly new performance instructions from international artists in form of performance instructions. Everyone can perform the instructional artwork, new scores are added weekly.
Commissioned by the Goethe-Institut Chicago, Scores by Tom Lee, Tahila Mintz, Olad Aden, Ellen Rothenberg, and Tara Aisha Willis will be published starting Nov. 3 to mark election day in the USA.
The living room becomes a stage: '1000 Scores. Pieces for Here, Now & Later' is an online project for which international artists created short performance instructions, so-called Scores. New scores are published twice a week.
The project was initiated by Helgard Haug, David Helbich and Cornelius Puschke.
In the tradition of collections such as the 'Fluxus Performance Workbook', Hans Ulrich Obrist's 'do it' or Miranda July's and Harrell Fletcher's 'Learning to Love You More', the Haug/Helbich/Puschke trio presents new instructional works by international artists, each of which can be realized by one person at any location.
The series is a reaction to the current corona crisis, and all works have in common that they can be realized at home, no utensils are needed or only those that are common in households - in this special case, scores are being developed for election day in the USA.
In David Helbich's case a full wine glass becomes an instrument, the artist Tim Etchells lets sentences from newspapers and everyday life grow into a Dadaistic-poetic mantra, while composer Ryoko Akama creates her own musical scale by reflecting on everyday moods. Since the project began in June, the collection has grown continuously.
All scores remain available online. The commissions for new scores are awarded jointly by the artistic team with partner institutions and co-producers.
Production: Rimini Apparat Co-production: PACT Zollverein, Goethe Institut/Federal Foreign Office of Germany, Tanz im August and KANAL - Centre Pompidou.
