Urban Pilgrimage
YOU ARE HERE: The Emerald Camino Project
With Akinbode Akinbiyi
Theatre Y creates a social ritual for Chicagoans re-emerging out of COVID-19 on behalf of eleven communities hit hard by the virus and systemic racism, an ambulatory performance along Chicago's Emerald Necklace with the goal of forging new bonds across neighborhoods. This six-week urban pilgrimage seeks to recover our shared humanity and reclaim the walkability that Daniel Burnam intended in some of Chicago's most underserved neighborhoods.
Schedule, Tickets, Reservations
Berlin-based Nigerian photographer Akinbode Akinbiyi accompanies Theatre Y along the Emerald Necklace, photo-documenting the pilgrimage, the city, and its people. His photographs, along with 940 hours of recorded conversations, a drone video installation, and video documentation will memorialize this celebratory walk, archiving a joyous way forward into what will be a much more enabling future.
