At the October German Book Club meeting we will discuss Robert Seethaler's Ein Ganzes Leben (Goldmann Verlag, ISBN: 978-3442482917, € 9,99).

When Andreas Egger arrives in the valley where he will spend the rest of his life, he is four years old, more or less (no one knows exactly when he was born). He grows up to be an able farm hand, and as a young man joins a team of workers that builds one of the first mountain railroads, while also bringing light and noise into the valley by introducing electricity. Then comes the day when Egger sees Marie for the first time, who will both the greatest love of his life and his greatest loss. Only many years later do they reunite as Egger takes his final journey, looking back at his life with astonishment at the years that have passed him by. A simple and yet deeply moving story.
