For years, their roles were simply reversed. Theatre director Konrad took care of the household and upbringing of their two children, while Christine tried to work her way up as an anaesthetist at a clinic. But that’s about to come to an end now. Konrad has a chance of directing a readaptation of Hebbel’s “Nibelungen”, and an au pair from Argentina is to take care of the kids. But nothing goes as planned, because the old roles have remained in place and only the line-up has changed. Robert Thalheim’s ELTERN is a brilliantly enacted, well-thought out piece, which injects new meaning into the term “family film”.
