Meet to discuss works from contemporary German-speaking authors in our Goethe Book Club hosted by Chris Walker. Each selection can be read in its English translation or original German; the discussion will be in English.
Robert Menasse: The Capital (2017)
Winner of the 2018 German Book Prize, The Capital examines the center of the European Union: Brussels. The story questions what might unite Europe through a shared common history to mark the “Big Jubilee Project” in the cultural ministry. As a pig runs wild in the streets, the novel examines the dangers of a fragmented Europe.
Robert Menasse is an Austrian writer and essayist. His work has received various awards, including the European Book Prize and the prestigious German Book Prize.
