Wunderbar Together is dedicated to promoting the robust relationship between Germany and the U.S., rooted in deep historic ties, shared values, and bold visions for the future. After 2,800 events in all 50 states during the Year of German-American Friendship in 2018 and 2019, Wunderbar Together continued in 2021 with a new slate of exciting projects. Its German-American Events Calendar serves as a central hub for German-American friendship in the U.S., featuring events related to science, art, culture, language, business, and sports.
The Goethe-Institut has contributed to Wunderbar Together with a variety of multifaceted projects.
In 2019 our team travelled over 25,000 miles all across the United States and brought the spirit of the German-American friendship to thousands of students at over 60 schools and universities in the U.S. In 2020, the Digital Wanderbus featured a 3D space where students could dive into a variety of topics, from politics to science, from German history to culture.

In the podcast series “The Big Pond,” radio journalists from the U.S. and Germany tell stories on a wide variety of topics – such as music, sports, history, religion, language, and society.
The digital kinderuniversity is a brand new, completely free, and entirely online-based program. Students will learn German while watching fun videos about science experiments. Enjoy!

Celebrating German Film
For one year, we celebrated German film by offering a collection of 48 streamable German movies for free in the U.S. – including a wide range of genres and time periods, a colorful portrait of German film.
The “Land of Inventors Germany” exhibition traveled across the U.S. in 2018 and 2019, showcasing German inventions that have improved our daily lives – and continue to do so.
Goethe Pop Up
The Goethe-Institut ran four Pop Ups in Houston, Kansas City, Minneapolis, and Seattle during the “Year of German-American Friendship.” Examples of the Goethe-Institut’s projects and work were demonstrated at these locations. The purpose of these Pop Ups was to unite cultural forces and local civil society and organize events. In 2021, the three Pop Ups in Houston, Kansas City, and Seattle will remain active and continue to offer exciting cultural programming.
Wunderbar Together is a comprehensive, collaborative initiative funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and implemented by the Goethe-Institut with the goal of presenting today’s Germany to people across the entire U.S.
Wunderbar Together showcases how closely the two countries are linked by heritage, common values, and shared interests, illustrating how a brighter future is possible if we tackle global challenges together through focusing on dialogue, exchange, and cooperation between people.
The campaign aims to convey a multifaceted, modern image of Germany in the U.S. by exploring a variety of areas, including business and industry, politics, education, culture, science, civil society, and sports.
Germany and the U.S. are connected through a centuries-long common history. German immigrants have helped shape the development of the United States, while the successful development of post-war Germany is inextricably linked to U.S. engagement. Wunderbar Together builds on this success story and aims to intensify the transatlantic dialogue.
