Dear colleagues,
 
This summer we redesigned our Teaching German website. As you get ready to start the new academic year, please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the latest professional development trainings, materials for classroom use or educational programs for your students. Comments and suggestions on how to improve our website are always welcome.

Teaching the Bundestagswahl 2021 this fall? Head out to our dossier on the election to prepare for and gather ideas for teaching. Also, there are still a few slots available in our Gaming in German afterschool programs, so if you have been thinking about signing up your middle- or high school students, now it`s the time to do so.

SPARK for German is planning a Kickoff event on Thursday, September 16th at 12/noon EST to share updates, introduce partners and to toast to a successful fall roll out. Register here to virtually join the celebration.

The Digital Junioruni ,a new free-of-charge program for students ages 14 and up which features videos from robotics to rocket science and teaches basic German vocabulary, will be launched on September 28, 2021 from 10am-2pm EST. For now please save the date to join the celebration with your class. Registration link to follow in our September newsletter.

Finally, the Internationale Deutscholympiade (IDO), the world`s largest German language competition for students, will take place next year in Germany. Register your top students by October 15, 2021.

Bridge the Gap

In September, ten inaugural Career Bridge students are starting a career-specific module, where they will learn skills to be successful in today’s global and multicultural marketplace. In Spring 2022 they will experience a fully immersive visit to German companies and a hands-on work-related stay in Germany. How about your students?

PASCHtopia

German teachers from the US and Canada can experience PASCHtopia in a test round on September 3, 5:00-6:30PM EST and get ready for the PASCHtopia competition! Students present their ideas for an ideal society, which they develop collaboratively in the game. The best teams play against each other in the finals on November 13, 2021.

Are you looking for a virtual field trip idea? The digital Wanderbus and the Wanderbus KARRIERE offer a 3D-experience of Germany-related topics from science, sustainability to fun facts and job perspectives. 360° videos, interactive quizzes, and games will make this tour a perfect classroom activity. There are still open slots available.

The German parliamentary elections will take place on September 26, 2021. How many parties can Germans vote for and what is `limited term office`? U-Häppchen, are interactive PDFs that cover contemporary topics in the German speaking world combined with authentic, student-oriented tasks. For immediate download and use in your German classroom. Published every month for German beginner students in Middle-/High Schools (level A1-A2).

Internationale Deutsch Olympiade (IDO)

The International German Olympics (short: IDO) is the world’s largest German language competition. German teachers can sign up their four top students for the competition till October 15, 2021. The two winners and an accompanying teacher receive all-costs-covered scholarships to travel to the competition’s final round in Hamburg, Germany in Summer 2022.
