For one year, Jade swapped her life in the U.S. for a life in Germany. She lived with a host family, attended a local school, made new friends and learned a lot about herself and her host country. Here she tells us why she decided to go abroad for a year in the middle of her schooling, what ups and downs she experienced, and what her plans are for the future.

The PASCH network in the USA has grown!         
On October 28, Douglas High School in Box Elder became the 14th school in the US and the first in South Dakota to join the global network of PASCH schools. In this context, the Goethe-Institut Chicago organized two days of workshops for all German learners at the school as well as a pep rally for the ceremonial presentation of the PASCH plaque.
 

This summer, nearly 1,300 PASCH students from 120 nations came together to improve their German and broaden their horizons at PASCH Youth Courses. Maizie Schaffart, a PASCH student from Millard North High School in Omaha, Nebraska, reports on her experience.

Working at the German Consulate General in Chicago, Christopher Fuchs deals with a wide range of diplomatic issues. In April, he visited Millard North High School in Omaha, NE to give the students an insight into his work as a diplomat.

German and art - these two subjects seem to have little to do with each other. But at Millard North High School, a PASCH school in Nebraska, a project links the two subjects: together with their teachers, around 20 students from the German Club and the Art Club painted two works by Franz Marc on the walls of the school.

1083 postcards, 396 gummy bear sandwiches and many personal messages - at Niles West High School in Skokie, PASCH teacher Josef Neumayer pulls out all the stops to get the students excited about learning German.
 

Even an algorithm needs to practice – and we can train it. PASCH students from Mt. Lebanon High School in Pittsburgh can learn about this exciting connection between artificial intelligence and us users in a playful way in the interactive online workshop "Artificial Intelligence Explained".

Sauerkraut is more than just a typical German dish and in this lesson, students learn why in a very practical way: This cross-curricular project combines German as a foreign language with scientific approaches.

PASCH-students of Cony High School in Augusta, Maine and ConVal Regional High School in Peterborough, New Hampshire learned about coding in their German class. In order to do this, they were provided with Calliope Minis – minicomputers that enabled the students to get acquainted with programming in German.

PASCH students from Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School in Massachusetts got the opportunity to learn about songwriting. Together with Antje Duvekot, one of Boston's top singer songwriters, they wrote their own song in German. Two students shared their experience with us!

In the digital Wanderbus, German politician Jürgen Hardt faced young people from Germany and the USA: Students from the PASCH school Stuyvesant High School in New York and students from a German high school interviewed the CDU politician and asked him their questions.

After an extremely challenging school year full of changes due to the pandemic, the German 2 and German 3 students of Ladue Horton Watkins High School in St. Louis, MO took the Fit für Deutsch A2 exams. 

We celebrate Earth Day! On this day, April 22nd, we would like to focus on the environment and sustainability. At the PASCH school, Niles West High School, students use Earth Day as an opportunity to build nesting boxes for local birds.

 

On an ordinary Monday morning, the German class of Carmel High School, Indiana got stranded on the uninhabited islands of PASCHtopia. At first, the students were quite lost on the vast sandy beaches of the islands. Soon after they soon realized that cooperation was key to survive in the middle of the ocean.
