Shila Rahmani Coutard
I grew up in the beautiful city of Heidelberg, a college town in southwest Germany. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in education and have attended relevant training and internships to qualify as a teacher of German as a Foreign Language. I have gained experience and valuable expertise by teaching German to adults with diverse cultural backgrounds, and also by working with K-12 students, both in Germany and in New York City.
Growing up bilingual I learned early in life that speaking a foreign language is more than just knowing its grammar. Learning a new language is opening a gate to a new exciting world, a new culture, its people and their stories. I believe the key to successful learning is the connection and interaction between cognition and emotion.
Through the high-quality training, the professional supervision, and the philosophy of lifelong learning at the Goethe-Institut New York, I have learned to improve my own lesson plans, and have been given the opportunity to constantly grow professionally.
Working as a Coach for the Goethe-Institut New York I am looking forward to sharing experiences with other professional language instructors, making connections, and learning from each other.
