In-Person language events

German Gym

Looking for exciting and interesting opportunities to exercise your German, meet new people, learn new skills and improve your mind? Try our German Gym! No membership, just a once-a-semester registration for access to up to 15 visits to the Gym in the fall semester 2022. Conducted entirely in German by your friends in the Goethe-Institut Boston Sprachkursbüro. Active participation requires the skill level indicated. Schedules of the events are below. Registered participants will receive a form to sign up for up to 15 events from the list below. Please email germancourses-boston@goethe.de to register and with any questions.

Lesen auf Deutsch

Wednesdays, 6:00pm - 7:30pm

It's no coincidence that the printing press was invented in Germany - the power of the written word has ever been a hallmark of the German language. Participants will gather to read (out loud!) and discuss selected contemporary and historical texts including poems, short stories, memoir, journal articles, works of German theater and even song lyrics. Topics will be posted on our social media channels and event calendar one week prior to the session.

Denken Auf Deutsch

The Denken auf Deutsch series concerns itself with the texts of the most influential German thinkers as well as contemporary political and social topics.  This year we will visit the works of Hannah Arendt, Carl Gustav Jung, Erich Fromm, and Friedrich Nietzsche. Readings and discussions are in German language.

So you're learning German and just discovered Dativ in all of ist wondrous glory… but you can't quite understand how it is different from Akkusativ? Throw in the fact that you never learned any articles properly, and you definitely will want to stop by our Hausaufgabenhilfe. Friendly Goethe-Institut colleagues are here to support you - even if it's just to offer you Mitleid, Tempo and some Haribo.

Let's meditate together - in German! Vocabulary lists will be provided for all speakers below the B1 level who might need a little support, but all (including absolute beginners) are welcome to attend and let the gentle voices of our guides bring you to a place of peace and reflection.

Wir sind wieder soweit! We are ready to throw open the doors of 170 Beacon Street and welcome you back…not just "to school" but to community, culture, and your little corner of Deutschland in Boston. Beginning at 2pm we will offer in-person placements and student advising. At 5:30pm you can visit each of our classrooms and test out our new offerings - Lesen, Denken, and Debattieren auf Deutsch - and at 7pm you can join a trial class. There is no cost to attend, and we hope you will!

GAPP anniversary celebration

Celebrate the 50 years of German-American intercultural dialogue, experiences, encounters, and stories that have grown from the the German American Partnership Program. Now headquarted in New York, GAPP was born in Boston, and for one magical night, present and past coordinators, alumni, friends and family will gather to say Prost! to GAPP.
