These two German authors are living their dream in California. Cornelia Funke, one of Germany's most successful children's authors worldwide, has lived in Malibu since 2005. The fantastic worlds she creates top the New York Times’ bestseller list, have sold 20 million copies and been translated into 37 languages. Kerstin Zilm, an independent producer and radio reporter, moved to Los Angeles in 2003, founded her own production company, soundslikerstin, and wrote a book about her arrival in California. A conversation about writing fantasy and reporting reality in the Golden State.
Cornelia Funke is a storyteller and illustrator. She is published all over the world in so many languages, that she feels sometimes as if she got lost in her own stories. She is German but lives in Malibu, CA - and in all the worlds she explores with her readers. For years Cornelia Funke has been one of the best-known and bestselling children's authors in Germany. Americans, however, were not exposed to Funke's work until 2002, when her book Herr der Diebe was translated into English and released by Scholastic Press as The Thief Lord.
Kerstin Zilm is an Independent Producer from Germany. She started working as a reporter in Berlin, East and West Germany shortly after the wall came down. In 2003 she came to Los Angeles as head of the West coast radio studio for Germany’s public broadcasting network ARD. In 2008 Kerstin established her own studio in Los Angeles. She just published a selection of short stories and poems inspired by her life in Los Angeles: Farewells and New Beginnings.
