LEVEL DESCRIPTION

We at the Goethe-Institut develop our courses based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The Framework of Reference consists of six levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2. A1 is the lowest level, C2 is the highest. We currently only offer our German Online Individual Course for levels A1 through B1 and C1, but we are already working on developing higher levels! We offer various course models for every level ― you are free to decide which course model appeals most to you. A placement test is included should you have any prior knowledge of German.

(Beginners 1)

Sublevel A1

What you will learn in level A1:

  • How to use everyday expressions to meet basic needs
  • How to introduce yourself and others
  • How to engage in basic communication

Level: A2
(Beginners 2)

Sublevel A2

What you will learn in level A2:

  • How to communicate in routine situations and about everyday topics such as shopping, work, family, and one’s background
  • How to engage in the basic exchange of information about familiar and common things
  • How to describe one’s own background and education

Level: B1
(Intermediate 1)

What you will learn in level B1:

  • How to communicate in common situations that occur while traveling
  • How to communicate about familiar topics and interests
  • How to express dreams, goals, experiences, and events
  • How to understand the main points of a statement about everyday things
  • How to give brief explanations about one’s own plans and opinions

What you will learn in level C1:

  • Comprehension of more complex and longer texts and understanding of their implicit context
  • How to communicate spontaneously and fluently without searching for words
  • How to use the German language in your social and professional life, during your vocational training or studies
  • How to express yourself clearly, elaborated and structured in complex issues
