An Interactive Online Experience by Rimini Protokoll in Cooperation with BorderLight Cleveland
We have always walked, but we walk more and differently when other modes of transportation have seemed less important and when we walk alone and in emptier spaces. Yet we also, thanks to digital technologies, experience isolation and connectivity differently than before the pandemic. “The Walks” explores our contemporary experiences of embodiment, public space and imagined community in the wake of Covid-19’s challenges to our sense of individual and shared identity.
BorderLight Cleveland will feature a new work by Rimini Protokoll, “The Walks.” This project represents a response to the global pandemic of 2020-21 in a manner distinctive to Rimini Protokoll.
The focus of “The Walks” is on the disruptions of the past year—with its shut-downs, social distancing, and general anxieties about individual and public health— that have created an impact on individual and collective experience.
“The Walks” will be available under special terms and will continue across a calendar year and across the globe. The work will be experienced by audiences in a diffuse manner and will be available for one year starting July 22, 2021.
The app will be made available through the usual vendors, such as iTunes, Google Play, etc.
You will download the app onto your smart phone and engage with The Walks.
Helgard Haug, Stefan Kaegi
and Daniel Wetzel
founded the theatre-label Rimini Protokoll
in 2000 and have since worked in different constellations under this name. Work by work they have expanded the means of the theatre to create new perspectives on reality.
Rimini Protokoll often develop their stage-works, interventions, performative installations and audio plays together with experts who have gained their knowledge and skills beyond the theatre. Furthermore, they like to transpose rooms or social structures into theatrical formats. Many of their works feature interactivity and a playful use of technology.
Since 2003, the production office of Rimini Protokoll is in Berlin.
Launched in 2019 in Cleveland, the BorderLight Festival
is dedicated to presenting visionary international theatre and building cross-cultural understanding. In addition to world-class foreign presenters, the festival features original collaborations between American and international artists, as well as Fringe Festival attracting performers from across North America.
