The Cloud Room

Read. Talk. Share.

Do you enjoy reading books and meeting new people? Then join our new book club! Each month, we invite readers to come together and discuss works from contemporary German-speaking authors within a wide range of genres and formats and share their experiences.

The group meets at 7pm at the Cloud Room Bar (21+), the Goethe Pop Up’s upstairs neighbor in the Chophouse Row (4th floor).

The Book Club is free and open to everyone interested, but participants must purchase the individual texts themselves and are expected to have read the title to be discussed prior to the meeting.

Feel free to read each selection in its English translation or original German; the discussion will be held in English. No registration required.  Copies can be obtained online via most major retailers in hard copy or digital format.

In February, we begin the book club with a graphic novel:

First Man: Reimagining Matthew Henson (Simon Schwartz, Graphic Universe TM, 2015)

German edition:
Packeis (Simon Schwartz, avant-verlag, 2012)

Book cover: First Man: Reimagining Matthew Henson © Graphic Universe In First Man: Reimagining Matthew Henson, Simon Schwartz weaves biography and fiction together to explore the life of Arctic adventurer Matthew Henson, the African-American explorer who reached the North Pole before Robert Peary. Moving between different time periods and incorporating Inuit mythology, Schwartz offers a fresh perspective on the many challenges Henson confronted during his life.
