Comics & Short Films from France and Germany
May 9th marks Europe Day, a celebration of peace and unity in Europe to commemorate the Schuman Declaration of May 9, 1950, considered the founding text and vision of the European Union. To celebrate this day, representatives of the EU organize a variety of activities all over the world. On this occasion, Goethe Pop Up Seattle and the Alliance Française de Seattle are proud to present a collaborative event at the Goethe Pop Up Seattle in the Chophouse Row.

Le Monde diplomatique and the Goethe-Institut.
Le Monde diplomatique is a monthly newspaper for international politics which is currently published in 20 languages. The back cover of the German edition traditionally features renowned illustrators and comic-strip artists whose remarkable contributions capture their personal view of international politics and current events. The comics offer an unpredictable, often absurd and sometimes melancholic glance at politics, everyday life, and culture.
Join us at 6:30pm for a reception with opening remarks by official representatives of Germany and France to reflect on Europe Day and celebrate an evening of European-American friendship.
From 7 to 9pm, Goethe Pop Up Seattle and Alliance Française de Seattle present a selection of short films made available by SHORT EXPORT and the Institut Français respectively. SHORT EXPORT is a French-German cooperative project between the Goethe-Institut Lyon, the International Short Film Festival in Clermont-Ferrand, the AG Kurzfilm - German Short Film Association, German Films, and the KurzFilmAgentur Hamburg. The selection of French films is curated by the Alliance Française de Seattle and features works selected or awarded at Clermont-Ferrand, IndieLisboa, Venice, and the César Awards.
Light appetizers and refreshments will be provided. This event is open to the public as part of the monthly Capitol Hill Art Walk.
