Lowercase Brewing

Following up on our multimedia B(r)auhaus project, the Pop Up is collaborating with our friends at Lowercase and Lucky Envelope Brewing to celebrate the release of a new Kölsch-style ale on September 5.

Taking place from 3-5 on the patio of Lowercase’s Georgetown taproom, the event will feature ale, food, and at 4 p.m. a brief live set of new songs by Cologne-based recording artist Salomea, aka Rebekka Salomea Ziegler.

Brewed by Lucky Envelope’s Barry Chan and Lowercase’s John Marti, the ale will also be the catalyst for a podcast mini-series on Kölsch hosted by Seattle Beer School: stay tuned for more information.

About SALOMEA:

SALOMEA © Le Tigre Noir Raised in Southern Germany in a half-American-Jewish half-German household of musicians, Rebekka went to Cologne in 2013 to study Jazz & Pop Vocals. It was then that she started writing music and lyrics and founded her band SALOMEA. As part of the vocal ensemble of the Bundesjazzorchester (BuJazzO) and with other bands, including her own, she has toured to Russia, Morocco, and all over Europe, performing at renowned festivals and clubs as well as recording several albums. Rebekka's music is based on self-reflection, meditations on sickness and death, identity, culture, and society, translating those powerful subjects into lyrical wit and jazzy arrangements with an RB twist.

"This show is incredibly special to me since it's the first time I get to perform my own music in my second home country. I’m very grateful to be able to get on stage at all right now, and excited to share some brand new songs and their stories, introducing a big collaboration I’m working on currently."

Lucky Envelope’s brewing philosophy is centered around “Culturally Inspired Beer” whose recipes draw from modern and historic brewing styles and techniques. The name Lucky Envelope comes from the Chinese tradition of the elderly generation giving the younger generation red envelopes filled with paper money. The color red is meant to ward off evil spirits and bring good health, while the money inside is supposed to bring prosperity.
