Pop Up Kino is a monthly film series celebrating German cinema from the East to the West and from the Weimar period to the Contemporary. Throughout the year a curated selection of films will be screened at MATCH and introduced by a special guest presenter.

Pop Up Kino presents the Weimar classic People on Sunday.

People on Sunday
, 1930
Directed by Robert Siodmak & Edgar G. Ulmer
Written by Billy Wilder

Years before they became major players in Hollywood, a group of young German filmmakers—including eventual noir masters Robert Siodmak and Edgar G. Ulmer and future Oscar winners Billy Wilder and Fred Zinnemann—worked together on the once-in-a-lifetime collaboration People on Sunday. This effervescent, sunlit silent, about a handful of city dwellers (a charming cast of non professionals) enjoying a weekend outing, offers a rare glimpse of Weimar-era Berlin.

A unique hybrid of documentary and fictional storytelling, People on Sunday was both an experiment and a mainstream hit that would influence generations of film artists around the world.

Free admission. Reserve a spot at: matchouston.org/

Doors open at 6:30. Starts at 7.

The film will be introduced by University of Houston Professor Dr. Sandra Frieden.
