Pop Up Kino, Goethe Pop Up Houston's monthly film series, presents Head-On, a German-Turkish love story from writer-director Fatih Akin.
A raw, provocative drama, the film follows a marriage of convenience between Cahit, a self-destructive punk rocker in his 40s, and Sibel, a young, suicidal women oppressed by her traditional Turkish family.
Head-On was Fatih Akin's 2004 breakout hit and winner of the Best European Film Award and the Berlinale's prestigious Golden Bear.

Pop Up Kino is a monthly film series celebrating the depths of German cinema. Throughout the year a curated selection of films will be screened at MATCH and introduced by German film scholar Dr. Sandy Frieden.
Dr. Sandy Frieden has taught German Film courses at the University of Houston for 38 years. She has published articles and books on German film and literature, and served as lead editor for Gender and German Cinema: Feminist Interventions.
