In this documentary masterpiece, director Helke Misselwitz travels by train across East Germany, interviewing women about their lives and aspirations in different regions of the country. Filmed shortly before the collapse of the GDR, Winter Adé
portrays a changing society and challenges the state's official image of women.

Dr. Sandy Frieden has taught German Film courses at the University of Houston for 38 years. She has published articles and books on German film and literature, and served as lead editor for Gender and German Cinema: Feminist Interventions.
