GUARANTEED ENLIGHTENMENT: DORIS DÖRRIE FILMS

Written and Directed by:
Doris Dörrie, Germany (1994), 104 min., German with English Subtitles, digital. Starring: Maria Schrader, Pierre Sanousisi-Bliss, Michael von Au, Joachim Krol.

Based on characters from her collection of short stories “Für Immer und Ewig,”  Dörrie’s offbeat tragic comedy focuses on the comically bizarre residents of a Cologne apartment building located somewhere between train tracks and an urban wasteland.
Fanny Fink (Schrader) is on the brink of her 31st birthday and plagued by the existential fear of being alone. Desperate to find the man of her dreams before it is too late, she seeks the assistance of her new acquaintance and mystical visionary Orfeo (Sanoussi-Bliss).
Instilled with new confidence, Fanny quickly falls in love with a man who seems to fit the man prophesied by Orfeo, but what Fanny soon learns about love and herself will change her outlook forever.

Winner of the 1995 German Film award for Best Film (Silver) and Best Acting for Maria Schrader.
