In summer 2014, Maren Ade began principal photography in Germany and Romania on her third feature film as producer, writer and director. The film, TONI ERDMANN, portrays the complicated relationship of an aging, hippie/practical jokester-bohemian (Peter Simonischek) and his estranged daughter (Sandra Hüller), an ambitious corporate consultant.

Even before its release, Maren Ade's film was making waves, and headlines, marking a turning point in the reception of German Cinema throughout the world.   Premiering in competition at the The Cannes International Film Festival 2016, the film was praised by audience and critics alike, ultimately receiving the Prize of the International Film Critics Association.

In advance of a special sneak-preview screening of TONI ERDMANN at the Goethe-Institut, this series focuses includes Maren Ade's previous two films: THE FOREST FOR THE TREES, and EVERYONE ELSE.
